EXAMINATION PROCESS

ELIGIBILITY:

Students of State Board, ICSE Board, CBSE Board and International Boards.  Class II to XII only.

The students are divided into three categories : 

  • Class 2 to 4 - Sub Junior Category

  • Class 5 to 8 - Junior Category

  • Class 9 to 12 - Senior Category

REGISTRATION PROCESS:

There are two mode of registration for participation in the National Geography Olympiad as mentioned below:-

 

a. Offline -  School Registration


b. Online - Individual Registration

  • Students will be registered through their respective school. The external exam coordinator is requested to fill the school registration form given in the brochure and send it along with the list of names of the students who wish to participate in the National Geography Olympiad. The required study material, results, certificates and awards will be sent to the school. However, the student will take the exam online.

 

OR 

 

  • Students are requested to register themselves through their schools and in case schools are not registered then the student has the option to register online for participation. The registration form for the student who is registering online is given on the home page under the sub heading ‘Geography Olympiad Registration'.

 

(Note: Each student has to opt for only one option from the above)

EXAM DATE & VENUE: 

Registration starts from 1st April– 30th October, 2022

 

  • Level I  - Exam Date - 4th December, 2022 Sunday. Students should be in possession of Laptop/Desktop/Tablet/Smartphone to appear for the exam.

 

  • Level II – Exam will be conducted online in the month of February 2023. The firm date of the exam will be conveyed along with the result of Level I. 

 

  • Level III - Exam will be conducted in the month of March 2023. The date of the exam will be announced along with the results of Level II. 

EXAM PATTERN: 

  • Level I -

    • It is a preliminary exam which will be conducted online.

    • The question paper will be based on testing the basic geographical knowledge of the student. In Level-1 a total of 40 MCQ’s will be given for Sub Junior Category and 50 MCQ’s each for Junior and Senior Category.

    • No negative marking for incorrect answers. One mark will be awarded for the correct and zero will be given for an incorrect answer.

    • 50 students from each category will be selected for Level-II exam. 

 

  • Level II –

    • The online mode of testing would be a mix of multiple choice and one word answer type questions.

    • A total of 40 questions will be given for Sub Junior Category and 50 questions each for Junior and Senior Category respectively.  

    • Top ten students from Level-II from each category will be eligible to appear for Level-III exam.

 

  • Level III -

    • This exam will be conducted online through interactive video conferencing tools.

  • Top Four winners of the Senior Category would represent India in the International Geography Olympiad, which is scheduled in the month of July 2023. Their ages must be between 16 and 19 years old (inclusive) on 30 June of the year that the Olympiad takes place. The venue for exam 2022-23 is Bandung, Indonesia. All the travelling and boarding expenditure, registration fee will be incurred by the participating student/parent. 

    These students will be mentored by Mr. Vinod Kumar, who is a senior faculty in Geography with extensive teaching experience of 21 years. To his credit he has coached and guided hundreds of NTSE students by conducting workshops in various locations across the country. His students have already represented India on international platforms like International Earth Science Olympiad and have proved their metal by winning medals and appreciation for India.

(Note:  In case of any unforeseen eventuality, winners will be informed accordingly. Winners have no right to claim their confirmation for the participation.

FEES: 

  • National Geography Olympiad Registration Fee is Rs. 300 per student. This is a one time registration fee and the student need not to pay any further registration fee/amount, if he/she qualifies for Level II and subsequent Level III.

  • Geography Olympiad Preparatory textbook compiled by I.B.G.B. Learning Society is available on demand from Society Office for an amount of Rs. 110 + dispatch charges i.e. Rs. 90.

NATIONAL AWARDS:

Level I

 "Certificate of Participation" will be awarded to all the participating students. 

  • Digital Certificates for the student appearing for the exam individually.

  • Certificate of Participation will be sent to the school for the students who registered through their respective school.

Level II

 

Fifty (50) meritorious students selected for Level II of the National Geography Olympiad from each category will be awarded with "Medal of Achievement" along with "Certificate of Appreciation".

  • ​Awards will be sent to the residential address for the students appearing for the exam individually.

  • The awards will be sent to the school for the students who registered through their respective school.

Level III

  • Three winners from each category will be suitably awarded. A Gold Medal, Certificate of Excellence and Cash Award of Rs 11000 to the First place winner. A Silver Medal, Certificate of Excellence, and Cash Award of Rs 5000 to the Second place winner. A Bronze Medal, Certificate of Excellence and Cash Award of Rs 2500 to the Third place winner.

  • The students at the Fourth and Fifth place in all the three categories will be awarded with a Bronze Medal and Cash Award of Rs 1100.

  • The other five participants from all the three categories will be felicitated with Certificate of Recognition. 
     

The four winners of the Senior Category will represent India in the International Geography Olympiad.

(Note:  In case of any change for the conduct of National Geography Olympiad due to any unforeseen situation, winners will be informed accordingly. Winners have no right to claim their confirmation for the participation).

SCHOOL AWARDS:

 Level I

 

All 3 Medals (Gold, Silver and Bronze) will be awarded in each category, subject to participation of minimum 15 students in each category.

  • In a category if less than 15 but more than 10 students participate then only Gold and Silver medals will be awarded.

  • In a category if less than 10 but more than 5 students participate then only Gold medal will be awarded.

  • In a category if less than 5 students participate then no medal will be awarded.

  • Merit Certificate will be awarded to the winners for their outstanding performance.

Certificate of participation will be given to all the participants to recognize their efforts

RECOGNITION TO TEACHERS:

 A Certificate of Appreciation and a trophy of honor will be awarded to the exam-coordinators who are associated during the conduct of National Geography Olympiad. The Head of the institution will be honored by the organization towards encouraging their students for participating in National Geography Olympiad.
